With each week making the arrival of our little one that much closer, we’ve been in full swing in making our house more like a home. I wanted to share a few useful tips on how we’ve been making our home ready for family life, as well as catering for the dogs – they’re family too of course!
If another person tells me that I need to hide all my ornaments away, I may well burst! I’ve had at least two dogs in our home for the last seven years and I’m used to many things getting ruined by their energetic ways. But, my theory is if we teach our child that they can touch whatever they want (as we’ve hidden everything breakable away), they will never learn to respect anything in our home. We’ll have to constantly stop them from touching everything when we take them to our friends and family’s homes. I can’t see my mum hiding away any of her ornaments any time soon – her house would be empty! So, instead of sacrificing everything we already love in our home. We’re going to simple re-position any of our expensive or sentimental items a little higher.
You may find it surprising that our Living Room isn’t currently the comfiest room in our house. We are yet to fall in love with the sofa of our dreams and while we continue to hurry along searching for the perfect one, we’re having to make do with extra seating. With plenty of pouffes and stools we’ve managed to make do with our seating arrangement for now. And, they’ll definitely be staying once we have both our new sofas and chairs in place. I love how the dogs can just chill out in comfort, yet the pouffes don’t detract from our décor style.

We’ve always dreamed of a big distressed industrial table for our kitchen, and after my other half got to work with a few planks of wood, plenty of sanding and staining. I’m now absolutely over the moon with our kitchen table. It’s the perfect space for all the family to sit down and eat. As, the table is super durable it’ll be perfect for our daughter to sit at to do her homework or make a mess with some arts and crafts. It easily seats 10 people too, so we’re never short of space. I think having the kitchen as a main space for our family is great!
